Marine Log - May 2008 - (Page 13) Senate panel okays MARPOL measure The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee last month approved legislation to amend the Maritime Pollution (MARPOL) Act. The “MARPOL Annex VI Implementation Act of 2008” would amend the “MARPOL Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships” by requiring the U.S. Coast Guard and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer and enforce air emissions standards on all vessels in the navigable waters of the United States, all vessels departing from or inbound to a U.S. port, and vessels that are a party to the convention operating within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone. Bollinger delivers Hornbeck oil barge ollinger Marine Fabricators L.L.C., Amelia, La., has delivered the 60,000 bbl capacity Energy 6508 to Hornbeck Offshore Transportation, L.L.C., Covington, La. The double hull oil tank barge, measuring 362 ft x 60 ft by 29 ft, was built to meet OPA’90 requirements. It is fitted with three Cat C18 electric generators providing propulsion, three EPS 12FPO Deep Well cargo pumps and three vertical electric motors serving as pump prime movers. In 2007, Bollinger delivered the first two of the class, the Energy 6506 and Energy 6507, to Hornbeck. All three barges are classed by ABS to the requirements of the Maltese Cross A1, unmanned oceans, and manned special service. Each vessel has six main cargo tank pairs, “Guard Level” Ian Conrad Bergan cargo tank gauging and overfill protection, vapor recovery, and a Brunvoll tunnel thruster for increased maneuverability. Each is certified by the USCG, under subchapter “D” and “O”, oceans, for grade “A” and lower products. B MOL charters the first in a series for Gulf LPG Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has struck a time charter agreement with Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L. of Qatar. The agreement is for the first in a series of four Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) carriers currently being built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in South Korea. The first vessel, the Bu Sidra, was delivered to Gulf LPG earlier this month. The second vessel, the Umm Laqhab will be delivered in July and will also be chartered to MOL.
