Marine Log - May 2008 - (Page 36) SHIPBUILDING ICE CLASS TANKERS EC project yields new shipbuilding tools T his past December in Delft, the Netherlands, several shipbuilders and engineering firms gathered to discuss InterSHIP Projects before the European Commission (EC). The InterSHIP Projects are being led by Europe’s largest shipbuilders, including Fincantieri, Navantia, Aker Yards and Meyer Werft. The idea behind InterSHIP is to increase the competitiveness of European shipyards through the use of technology. Spanish engineering firm and software solution provider SENER has played a significant role in several of the projects, including: • Intership I-2: CAD/PLM Integration Server Prototype (CIS) • Intership I-4: Ship Spaces Management Tool • Intership V: Tools for facilitating modules definition CAD/PML Integration Server (CIS) Within the Intership I-2 Project: Collaborative Working Environment Tools and Implementation, SENER has developed a CAD/PLM integration server prototype (CAD Integration ServerCIS) which allows integration of the Services Oriented Architecture with surroundings PML through web services (using the HTTP SOAP protocol). The prototype contains basic document management functions, such as document definition, document creation and search, check-in, check-out and the creation of document versions. To check the viability of the prototype, SENER created a demonstration integrating document management of the naval system CAD/CAM FORAN System together with ERP, and PLM sys- tems, SAP and Windchill. Using the tool, one can import ship forms in various formats, such as STEP AP216 and IGES, as well as exporting compartments in STEP AP215 format. SHIP SPACES MANAGEMENT TOOL SENER has developed a new tool for the management of ship spaces. Called the Ship Spaces Management Tool (SSMT), it is used for the definition of 3D ship spaces during the initial phases of the design. The system allows different users to access the stored ship space modeling information in a relational database. The spaces definition is carried out starting from existing surfaces, hull, decks and bulkheads of the ship. The definition can be made either on an individual basis (defining each space limit), by subdivision or using parametric spaces. Additionally, the tool offers the possibility to subdivide automatically the existing ship zones, leading in the bulkheads and existing decks.
