Marine Log - June 2008 - (Page 10) Update Canada awards patrol boat contract Canada is moving right along with its plan to build between six and eight ice-capable arctic offshore patrol ships (AOPS). Last month, BMT Fleet Technology Limited, Kanata, Ontario, was awarded the Definition, Engineering, Logistics and Management Support (DELMS) contract for the project. The ships will be gun-armed, have sophisticated surveillance and communications equipment and may carry a helicopter. AOPS will be able to operate in medium first year ice and sustain operations for up to four months. Under the DELMS contract, BMT will assist Canada's AOPS Program Management Office by exploring many technical and program issues during the Definition Phase of the project, and supporting the PMO during the implementation phase to deliver ships from 2013 to 2019. INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA Cat workboat for Australia ollowing on to its success with the design of the Seacor Cheetah, Australia’s Incat Crowther has been selected to design a 24m catamaran workboat for Offshore Unlimited. To be built at the new Richardson Devine Marine facility in Hobart, Tasmania, the new vessel will be capable of carrying 50 tonnes of deadweight with a service speed of 26 knots. The main deck, which will have a carrying capacity of 24 tonnes, will be arranged for multiple uses and will F include a moonpool for exploration services and the ability to carry a 20ft container. The deck will be serviced by a Heila deck crane capable of lifting 3.5 tonnes. The main accommodation block is located forward and contains space for a crew of 10. Powered by twin Caterpillar C32’s each producing 1,300 hp the vessel will have a service speed of 26 knots at half load. The vessel will have an extended range of 1,875nm at 22 knots due to two large 12,500 liter fuel tanks. This will allow the operator to reposition the vessel far more effectively than they previously could. Offshore Unlimited is a Tasmanian company providing vessels to the northern waters of Australia with operations out of Dampier, Western Australia and Mackay, Queensland, Australia. 10 MARINE LOG JUNE 2008 YEARBOOK www.marinelog.com http://www.nautican.com http://www.nautican.com http://www.marinelog.com
