SHOWCASE FUEL SAVING TECHNOLOGY ABB’s Cylmate System The Cylmate System was developed by ABB to monitor diesel engine performance. Designed to withstand the harsh marine environment, the system reduces the costs for maintenance and fuel and also reduces the risk of mechanical or thermal overload within the engine or individual cylinders. The system consists of a pressure transducer which allows for “blowthrough” cleaning, thus preventing combustion residue build up; the angle transducers’ function is to accurately scan the crank shaft angle position at the flywheel. The mathematical model within the system calculates the crank shaft deflection in order to obtain the correct crank angle and TDC at each cylinder. The Cylmate Controller measures/handles all data from engines and cylinders in real time. The Cylmate System also has an operator station that includes the Cylmate software and Cylmate logger. The logger is a tool used for trend analysis, fault prediction, fault tracing, voyage recording, performance optimization, and performance history. Data is measured 24/7 and like a black box, combustion history is kept in the “performance history” The Cylmate System monitors diesel engine reference report.
