Marine Log - July 2008 - (Page 10) Update LPG fleet expansion continues for Synergas The Syn Zube will be similar to this Synergas vessel INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA Italian LPG operator Synergas launched the 4,000 m3 liquefied gas tanker Syn Zube. The Syn Zube, constructed at the Italian Cantiere Navale de Pesaro (CNP) shipyard, is fitted with two separate self-supporting cylinder cargo tanks, and will be able to carry 4,000 m3 of LPG at a max pressure of 8 bar, and at a temperature of -48 degrees celsius. The semi-refrigerated gas tanker and its sister ship, the Syn Zania, feature a high degree of automation, and hull design solutions enabling the assignment by the class society RINA of the environmental notation CLEAN-SEA. Two other 4,500 m3 ethylene carriers are expected to be delivered in 2009 and 2010, respectively, under the company’s expansion plan. SWATH design for Latvia ermany’s Abeking & Rasmussen has secured an order to design five 25m SWATH patrol boats for the Latvian Navy. The vessels will be built in cooperation with the Riga Shipyard. The first of the class will be delivered by the Abeking & Rasmussen Shipyard in Levander, Germany, in Dec. 2010. The patrol boats will be based on a proven design used for two 25m pilot G tenders that went into operation in the German Bight in 1999. Those boats have a beam of 12.98m and draft of 2.7m, with a speed of 18 knots. Each of the Latvian patrol boats will be outfitted with two Nuremberg MAN Diesel engines. The SWATH or Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull will offer a stable platform for patrol and surveillance operations in Latvia’s economic exclusive zone and comfortable live-aboard conditions for Model of Latvian the crew of eight. The patrol boats with seaworthiness of the mission modules patrol boats will also provide an ideal platform for boarding at-sea operations.
