Marine Log - July 2008 - (Page 11) Keppel FELS secures Seadrill contracts eppel FELS Limited, Singapore, has secured a $420 million contract to build two jackup drilling rigs for Seadrill Limited, Norway. The new jackup drilling rigs will be built to Keppel’s proprietary KFELS B Class design. The design incorporates Keppel’s advanced and fully—automated high capacity rack and pinion elevating system, and Self-Positioning Fixation System. When completed, these rigs will be able to operate in water depths of up to 400 ft, drill down to 30,000 ft and accommodate 112 men. Delivery of the rigs is set for the second and fourth quarter of 2010. NASSCO is awarded $100 million contract General Dynamics’ NASSCO, San Diego, Calif., was awarded a $100 million contract from the U.S Navy to purchase long lead materials for the construction of a 12th T-AKE dry cargo-ammunition ship. NASSCO is already under contract to construct 11 T-AKE ships at its shipyard—five of which have been delivered. Construction is expected to begin in early 2011 on the 12th ship, with delivery to follow in the later part of 2012. In addition, NASSCO also laid the keel for the second ship in its new series of product carriers. The ship, expected to be delivered in 2009, is being built for U.S. Shipping Partners, Edison N.J. It will be 600 ft long and have a cargo capacity of 331,000 bbls. Named the Pelican State, the tanker will be used in coastal trade, carrying petroleum and chemical products. K In addition, Keppel is currently constructing a semisubmersible drilling tender (SSDT) for Seadrill—slated for delivery at the end of 2009— called the West Beran II. Keppel recently won another contract, from Seadrill, worth $160 million for an SSDT. The latest SSDT, like the West Berani II, will feature a crane capacity of 250 tonnes, four mud pumps and has accomodations for 160 people. It’s scheduled delivery is for the first quarter in 2011. The KFELS SSDT series is designed to operate in deepwaters of up to 5,000 ft. These will be the sixth and seventh tender drilling rigs Keppel has built for Seadrill since 1994.
