Its latest order, from Otto Marine Ptd Ltd. in Singapore, is for two MaK 16 M323C marine engines, each with 8,000 kW of power at 720 to 750 rev/min. The engines will provide propulsion for a VS491 Clean Design Anchor Handling Tug supply vessel (AHTSV). Considered a “super tug,” the 90 m long tug will have a 250 ton bollard pull and will be capable of operating globally. The design will feature hybrid PTO (power take off)/ PTI (power take in) gearboxes, 21 meters of shafting and 4.2 meter diameter propellers provided from Scan Volda. Four “super tugs” have been sold by Otto Marine to Mosvold Supply Ltd., Norway, with the first and second newbuilds expected to be delivered in October of 2009 and June 2010. www.cat.com The Mak VM 32 C engines can cover a power range from 5,760 to 8,000 kW at 720 to 750 rev/min MAN enhances its ME-B engine program MAN Diesel’s success with its 6S40ME-B engine has led to the launching of the MAN B&W S46ME-B and S60ME-B type engines, enhancing its low-speed ME-B engine program, which includes the S35ME-B, S40ME-B and S50ME-B engines. The ME-B design is economical, utilizing a camshaft-operated exhaust valve and an electronically controlled fuelinjection system that helps the engines meet the new Tier 2 emission requirements. The recently launched engines have identical bedplates to those of the MC-C and ME-C type engines and bring the total output range for The 6S40ME-B the entire ME-B probuilt gram from 4,350 to by STX last 19,040 kW. The first MEDecember B engine, the 6S40ME-B, was built last December by STX Heavy Industries, Korea. The first ME-B engine delivers 6,810 kW and 146 rev/min. www.marinelog.com MTU subsidiary will power emergency tug MTU Friedrichshafen subsidiary Tognum will supply four diesel engines to a new emergency tugboat that will be used in Germany’s North Sea.
