The company, which owns and leases Jones Act tankers built by Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, will be known as American Shipping Company ASA. The name change was prompted by Aker ASA’s reduction of its interest in the company from 53.2% to 19.9%. L BIG eading conatiner liner shipping company Maersk Line says that its parent A.P. Moller Maersk has inked a deal with Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries for the delivery of 18 container vessels in 2011 and 2012. The estimated contract value is a staggering $1.66 billion for the series of 4,500-TEU boxships. Each of the ships will be equipped with a waste heat recovery system. The system ONE OF THE WORLD’S largest charter owners of container ships has bolstered its presence in the offshore market with its first two newbuild Platform Supply Vessels. Last month, E.R. Schiffahrt, Hamburg, Germany, marked a double naming ceremony for two 73.6m Platform Supply Vessels (PSV’s) for its offshore fleet. The E.R. Aalesund and the E.R. The flexible design of the vessels will allow Maersk Line to deploy them in a variety of scenarios. At present, it expects to deploy the vessels in the trades to and from Sub-Saharan Africa. Overall, the Maersk Line fleet includes more than 500 vessels with a total capacity of some 1.7 million TEU’s. reuses excess heat from the exhaust and thus generates energy for propulsion of the vessel or on-board electricity consumption. The reduction in fuel consumption results in a corresponding reduction of emissions. It is the first time that an Asian shipyard will install a waste heat recovery system of this size and efficiency, according to Maersk Line “These vessels are part of our fleet renewal and development P&O Ferries inks LOI for two Aker Yards and P&O Ferries have signed a letter of intent (LOI) for building two 210m car-passenger ferries for operation on the English Channel. If signed, the contract would have a value of about EURO 360 million (about $560.5 million). If the deal is confirmed, it would be a big boost to the struggling Finnish shipbuilding industry. Aker plans to build the ships at Aker Yards, Rauma, creating about 1,800 man-years of work. When delivered in 2010 and 2011, the two car ferries would become the largest of their kind operating on the English Channel. Each would have a capacity of 1,500 passengers and have 2,700 lane meters of vehicle space. Finland’s Deltamarin designed the ships to P&O specifications, with internal design work by SMC Design, London. 360m EURO E.R. Schiffahrt takes offshore plunge Temp, wife of Torsten Temp (HypoVereinsbank). Both ships are Rolls-Royce UT 755 LN-type designs. The PSV’s were built at the Aker shipyard in Aukra, Norway. E.R. Schiffahrt will manage the PSV’s along with two sister vessels to be delivered by the end of this year. The company has 14 other offshore newbuildings in its order book. Initially, the E.R.
