Marine Log - July 2008 - (Page G16) GULF COAST HEADLINER Texas Crewboats build Sea Angel Privately owned Texas Crewboats is building the Sea Angel, the third of three aluminum crewboats, at Neuville Boat Works, Inc., New Iberia, La. Capt. Elliott Cundieff started his newbuild program with the Miss Claire in 2006, followed by the delivery of the Greater Scott earlier this year. The Sea Angel is expected to be delivered this September. Unlike the Miss Claire and Greater Scott, which are each powered by four Cummins KTA38 M2 diesels, the Sea Angel’s propulsion will be provided by Shipyard owner Kerry Neuville and his daughter Lacey with Texas Crewboat's Sea Angel in build four of the new Tier 2 certified Cummins QSK38 M, generating 5,400 hp at 1,900 rev/min. These are the first of the 38liter engines for Texas Crewboats. Three of the company’s other vessels are each powered by four of Cummins KTA19, giving each of the 125 ft to 135 ft boats 2,800 hp. Texas Crewboats avoids head-to-head competition with the big fleets, operating their boats offshore Louisiana and Texas. EBDG prepares design for Texas car ferry Elliott Bay Design Group LLC (EBDG), Seattle, Wash., a wholly owned subsidiary of American Commercial Lines, was selected earlier this year by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), Corpus Christi District, to prepare a design for a new 28-car ferry for service between Port Aransas and Harbor Island. This short route forms the continuation of Texas State Highway 361 across the Corpus Christi Channel. The first phase of this design contract involved a Design Study Report. The Design Study Report included a hull and superstructure configuration study, propulsion and steering configuration study, propulsion and steering cost study and a capital cost study. Follow-on phases include Contract Design, Bid Support and Construction Liaison. With the first phase complete, EBDG has moved on to the contract design which is expected to wrap up in October 2008.
