Marine Log - August 2007 - (Page 10) Update Bourbon to shed harbor tow business Bourbon, Paris, France, is considering selling the port towage business of its Les Abeilles unit to Grupo Boluda Corporacion Maritima. The acquisition by Grupo Boluda, which operates harbor tugs in Spain and Latin America, would not include vessels operated by Les Abeilles International under charter by the French Navy for the protection of the French coastline. INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA Damen boat kit Dutch builder Damen will supply a complete material package for a Damen Stan Tug 1405 to Ecuadorian shipbuilder Astilleros Navales Ecuatorianos (ASTINAVE). ASTINAVE will assemble the 14.4m x 4.73m tug at its facility in Guayaquil, Equador, and deliver it to SUINSA in August 2008. SUINSA will use the tug to assist coastal tankers at its berthing station. BigLift to build heavy lift ships at new Indian shipyard eavy lift shipowner BigLift Shipping BV, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, recently signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro of India, to build two 18,680 dwt multipurpose heavy-lift vessels. The newbuildings will be 154.8m x 26.5m, with a scantling draft of 9.5m. The contract contains options for an additional two vessels. The vessels, which will be delivered in late 2009 and early 2010, will be built at Larsen & Toubro’s new shipbuilding facility in Hazira. The newbuilds, shown in the outboard profile above, will be equipped with two Huisman heavy-lift mast cranes, each having an SWL of 900 H Bear Stearns to acquire MC Shipping Under a merger agreement signed last month, MC Shipping Inc. will be acquired by a newly formed entity controlled by Bear Stearns Merchant Banking (BSMB). MC Shipping Inc. is an international shipping company focused on maritime transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with headquarters in Monaco and an office in London. MC Shipping currently fully or partially owns and operates a fleet of 19 vessels, including 15 LPG carriers, ranging in capcity from 3,000 to 78,000m3 and four container vessels of 2,300 TEU capacity, and has contracted to purchase four others, that serve the world’s major oil, gas, shipping and trading companies. Under the terms of the merger deal, MC Shipping shareholders will receive $14.25 per share in cash, representing a total transaction value of about $284 million. metric tonnes and a lifting capacity in tandem of 1,800 metric tonnes. The newbuildings will have 1A Finnish Ice class, have hydraulically operated upperdeck hatch covers, pontoon tweendeck covers at adjustable heights, two trolley cranes of 37.5 tonnes SWL, hold ventilation and heating, C02 and sprinkler systems in the hold. The vessels will be able to carry all kinds of dry cargo as well as project cargoes and heavy lifts in the most efficient manner. To carry very tall heavy lifts such as cranes, modules, etc. the ships can sail with the upperdeck covers totally or partially open. Bollinger will also be delivering the 80,000 bbl, B. No. 282 in the fourth quarter of 2007, and the B. No. 260, a 60,000 bbl in the 3rd quarter 2008, from the Bollinger Gretna facility. Bouchard conversion projects at Bollinger Gulf Repair and Bollinger Algiers are moving forward with the tank barge B. No. 295 (ex B. No. 195), being transformed from a single hull to double hull vessel to meet the requirements of OPA 90, with its tug, the 127-foot, Bouchard Girls, as well as the tug Ellen S. Bouchard at Bollinger Algiers undergoing regulatory renewals and upgrades. Bouchard takes delivery of first of two oil barges Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., Amelia, La.,, has delivered B. No. 231, the first of two double hull, 35,000 bbl oil tank barges to Bouchard Coastwise Management Co., Melville, N.Y. The No. 231 is a manned, clean oil, oceans tank barge measuring 300 ft x 64 ft. The barge has accommodations with full galley for four, and is classed ABS, +A1 Oil Tank Barge, Manned Oceans. The sister ship, B.
