Marine Log - August 2007 - (Page 47) Technews New alkyd resin coating Sherwin-Williams Industrial and Marine Coatings has introduced SeaGuard 1000, a onecomponent acrylic modified alkyd resin that improves color retention and gloss over that of standard alkyds, but without the cost of a silicone or urethane modification. It is designed specifically for marine and coastal environments. Ideal for use on exterior or interior surfaces, SeaGuard 1000 is capable of being applied at temperatures lower than 40o F (4o C), which makes it a perfect choice for vessel maintenance during winter lay up. The new coating is an approved coating for Canadian Coast Guard and Navy vessels that typically face winter dry dock conditions, having passed the rigorous National Standard of Canada test, CAN/CGSB-1.61-99. www.marinelog.com/infodirect operating propeller and spare propeller, and reduces the need for a spare propeller shaft. The Kamewa-SKF sleeve is a keyless high-grade steel sleeve with a cylindrical exterior and a tapered interior. The outer surface is manufactured to provide a precision fit into the cylindrical hole of the propeller hub.The inside is manufactured to give a precision fit to the tapered part of the propeller shaft. This eliminates costly, time-consuming verification of the matchmarking procedure by classification society survey when installing the propeller. When dismounting, the precision manufacturing also minimizes the risk of the propeller seizing of the shaft, thus reducing the risk of damage to the shaft taper. www.marinelog.com/infodirect Propeller sleeve is timer saver Kamewa fixed pitch propellers from Rolls-Royce are individually designed for optimized propeller efficiency and low vibration/noise levels. The complete fixed pitch propeller package includes the individual optimum Kamewa design, Monoblock propellers of conventional or high-skew design for both open and nozzle applications, and shafting with stern tube bearings, sealings, and nozzles. The fixed-pitch propellers have a variety of applications, including sophisticated ship types such as cruise vessels and ferries, arctic vessels, drilling rigs, and various types of naval vessels. For its fixed-pitch propellers, Rolls-Royce offers the KamewaSKF propeller sleeve. The sleeve (see inset) can be a time saver for ship operators and shipyards because it simplifies the removal and mounting of fixedpitch propellers, provides full inter-changeability between HILLMANN Maritime Innovative Solutions to Maritime Problems With over 50 years’ experience, our firm focuses on performance improvements to companies and organizations within the maritime industry.
