Marine Log - November 2007 - (Page 10) Update Centa moves to larger facility CENTA Corp. has moved to a new 23,000 ft2 office, warehouse and manufacturing and assembly building in Aurora, Ill. The new larger facility will enable the manufacturer of flexible couplings and shafting for power transmission systems to meet the increased demand for its products for the marine, oil and gas and wind power generation markets. In addition, CENTA marketing director Bob Lennon said the new facility would bolster the company’s “local manufacturing initiative” and help lower its dependence on deliveries from its parent company in Germany, while “lowering our exposure to global currency fluctuations.” CENTA new contact details are: CENTA Corporation 2570 Beverly Drive #128 Aurora, IL 60502-8588;Tel.: (630) 236-3500; Fax: (630) 236-3565; e-mail: info@centacorp.com INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA Ulstein set to bolster design muscle I s the marine industry in the midst of a brainpower-buying binge? In recent months, naval architectural and marine engineering design houses have been acquisition targets. This past September, ACL, Jeffersonville, Ind., whose holdings include Jeffboat shipyard, closed a deal for Elliott Bay Design Group, Seattle, Wash. That deal was soon followed by Rolls-Royce’s acquisition of Seaworthy Systems Inc., Essex, Conn. Now the Ulstein Group, Ulsteinvik, Norway, has confirmed that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire a majority stake in Sea of Solutions, Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. The deal is expected to close in Jan. 2008. Tore Ulstein, managing director, Ulstein International, says both companies have learned “to think outside the box with regard to design and develop- ment. It will thus be exciting to see the outcome of two such innovative companies linking up.” Sea of Solutions commercial director Bob Rietveldt, says “Both companies experience the benefits of being part of a [national maritime] cluster. It boosts our competitive edge, and collaboration between companies from two different clusters will yield even greater benefits.” Sea of Solutions specializes in heavy offshore ship design, which will extend the product portfolio of Ulstein. The Ulstein Group has long been an innovator in ship design and construction, most recently with its X-Bow design (photo inset). Once the acquisition is completed, the company’s name would change to Ulstein Sea of Solutions.
