Marine Log - November 2007 - (Page 20) Update Hornblower Marine Services lands Oklahoma City Ferry contract H ornblower Marine Services (HMS) is growing by leaps and bounds. The New Albany, Indiana-based operator is about to launch a new U.S. tour and ferry operation in the most unlikeliest of places—Oklahoma City, Okla. Beginning this month, HMS will manage the first of three new tour boats that will operate on a seven-mile stretch of the Oklahoma River running through downtown Oklahoma City. The HMS contract with Oklahoma City runs for three years. Oklahoma City’s Transit Authority will take delivery of the three 65 ft, 49-passenger boats from Scarano Boats, Port Albany, N.Y. The tour boats will have a classic look, but also include such modernday touches as two flat screen presentation monitors and state-of-the-art audio equip- ment, at a cost about $1 million each. The three “Oklahoma River Cruisers” will link directly with the city’s Oklahoma Spirit Trolley lines, making the cruisers an integral part of the regional transit system. Current and future planned river sites and destinations will include the city’s renowned Bricktown entertainment area, a planned American Indian Cultural Center, the linking of outlying hotels, Meeting and Convention facilities and serving individual drive-in travelers. Michael Lomax has been named as the general manager for the Oklahoma City operation. Lomax has worked with Hornblower Marine on a number of business development projects. HMS holds contracts to operate vessels from Alabama to Hawaii to Japan. Aircraft carrier contract for Northrop Grumman Newport News The U.S. Navy recently awarded a $190.7 million cost-plus-fixed-fee (with performance incentives) option to a previously awarded contract, Northrop Grumman Newport News, Newport News, Va., for continuation of the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) Refueling Complex Overhaul advance planning efforts. This option will continue to provide for advanced planning, ship checks, design, documentation, engineering, procurement, fabrication and preliminary shipyard or support facility work to prepare for and make ready for the refueling, overhaul, modernization and routine work on the aircraft carrier and its reactor plants. The work will be performed in Newport News, and is expected to be completed by October 2008. 20 MARINE LOG NOVEMBER 2007 www.marinelog.com http://www.helkamabica.fi http://www.helkamabica.fi http://www.marinelog.com
