Marine Log - November 2007 - (Page 30) COVERSTORY allow the vessel to continue to operate on one engine in the event of a catastrophic incident such as a fire in the other engine room. The tugs meet all SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and ABS criteria, and have a foam capable fire monitor; twin screw Wartsila electronically controlled engines generating a total of 16,320 horsepower; a noise reduction package ICE CLASS TANKERS and other upgrades to increase crew comfort. Also back in September, K-Sea Transportation Partners L.P., East Brunswick, N.J., one of the largest coastwise transportation operators, announced it had entered into a letter of intent with the Manitowoc Marine Group to construct a 185,000 bbl Articulated Tug-Barge unit at a cost that is expected to be between $68 million to $70 million. The ATB will be delivered in the fourth quarter of calendar 2009. K-Sea has an agreement in principle for a long-term charter for the unit with a major customer that is expected to commence upon delivery. The letter of intent also includes an option to build a second unit of similar design and cost. ML COASTWISE TANK BARGES UNDER CONSTRUCTION SHIPYARD Qty. Capacity Owner Est. Del.
