Marine Log - December 2007 - (Page 13) New RAmparts 3000 Class tug for Rio Tinto he first of a pair of RAmparts 3000 Class ship-handling tugs, the Harry Evans was delivered to Svitzer Australia by Cheoy Lee Shipbuilders, Hong Kong. These tugs are part of the RAmparts 300 Class designs series developed by Robert Allan Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., but are the first of the class built in China. The Harry Evans will be used for ship berthing and escort work. It is outfitted for a crew of six. Propulsion comprises of a pair of CAT 3516 B diesel engines, each rated at 1,685 kW at 1,600 rev/min, driving a Rolls-Royce model US 205 Z-drive with a 2,400 mm diameter propeller through a Twin Disc slipping clutch and a straight line shafting system. During trials, this combination delivered a bollard pull of 56 tonnes ahead, 53 tonnes astern, and a free running speed of 12 knots. IPO for OSG’s Jones Act operations Overseas Shipholding Group Inc., New York, N.Y., one of the world’s largest tanker owners, will offer a 24.5% interest in its Jones Act operations through an Initial Public Offering of 7.5 million shares. The shares, which will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol OSP, will be offered at an initial price of $19 each. OSG America L.P. will operate a fleet of 18 U.S. flag product carriers and coastwise tank barges primarily in the U.S. domestic market. OSG America is building two series of large Articulated Tug Barges, one with a 290,000 bbl capacity and another with a 330,000 bbl capacity.
