Marine Log - December 2007 - (Page 39) Technews Imtech: Innovations Imtech, Netherlands, has signed a contract, valued at $51 million, with Allseas to provide the automation The Pieter Schelte and technical will be the world’s largest infrastructure offshore construction vessel on board a new to be built offshore construction vessel. The vessel, Pieter Schelte, will be the largest offshore construction vessel in the world and will have the capacity to assemble and disassemble or relocate jackets of up to 25,000 tonnes as well as topsides of up to 48,000 tonnes. The vessel also has a high-tech system for laying pipelines on the ocean floor, down to a depth of around 3,500m. Imtech recently completed the technological infrastructure on high-tech pipe-laying vessels, the Audacia and Sapura 3000. The Pieter Schelte is expected to be put into service by 2011. www.imtech.eu/marine Rolls-Royce signs $50 million deal for heavy lift vessel systems Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with SE Shipping in Singapore covering the supply of integrated equipment systems for four large heavy lift vessels. These 45,000 deadweight tonne heavy lift vessels are of Polarconsult PK148 design, and will be built at two Chinese Shipyards. Although intended to mainly ship wind turbine parts, they will be equipped with cranes to allow them to move other heavy cargo. The contract is valued at $50 million. Suzlon Energy in India, one of the world’s largest suppliers of wind turbines, will use the vessels primarily for transporting wind turbine components worldwide. www.rolls-royce.com/marine The 45,000 dwt heavy lift vessels are based on the Polarconsult PK148 design Unique accommodation vessel under construction Edda Accommodation, a company of the Norwegian Østensjø Group, is currently building a unique 130m accommodation service vessel, which will be driven by five 2,500 kW Voith Schneider propellers. The vessel, which will have accommodations for up to 600 people, is being built at Spain’s Astillero Barrera shipyard for delivery at the end of 2009. The 27m wide vessel has two deck cranes and 260 square meters of deck space. With its DP3 system, the new supply vessel offers the most advanced technology in terms of “dynamic positioning” currently availa ble.
