Marine Log - December 2007 - (Page 8) Update Clarifying Buzzards Bay regulation September 2007’s Last Word article, “Clearing Up Buzzards Bay’s Murky Waters” contained an error in describing the Coast Guard’s August 30 final rule on the Regulated Navigation Area (RNA) for the First District. The article stated, “The rule does not require an escort tug for tank ships, double-hulled barges or single-hull tank barges towed by primary tugs that have twin-screw propulsion with a separate system for power to each screw.” This is only true in First District waterways other than Buzzards Bay. In Buzzards Bay, tugboats towing any single-hull tank barges must meet the federal pilot, tug escort and Vessel Movement Reporting System (VMRS) requirements outlined in the rule. INLAND • COASTAL • OFFSHORE • DEEPSEA New deepwater boats for Seacor, Rigdon T wo U.S. Gulf of Mexico operators, acor Marine and Rigdon Marine, recently added next generation diesel-electric deepwater boats to their fleets. SEACOR Marine LLC, took delivery of the 265 ft, Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel M/V John Coghill. Built by Bender Shipbuilding and Repair in Mobile, Ala., the John Coghill features an environmentally friendlier, lower emission diesel electric power plant. The AHTS features DP2 (Dynamic Positioning) and 10,750 total horsepower from four Caterpillar 3516 diesel engines, state-of-the art Furuno electronic systems, diesel electric drives, generators, switchboards and automation packages by Converteam and generous crew accommodations. Meanwhile, Rigdon Marine, Houston, Tex., added the Triple Play, the third in a The 265 ft AHTS vessel M/V John Coghill series of ten 190 ft x 46 ft, diesel-electric, DP2 Platform Supply Vessels.
