Marine Log - December 2008 - (Page 24) SHIPBUILDING MSC Ivana MSC IVANA at-a-glance Length,OA Length,BP Breadth, molded Depth molded to main deck to upper deck Draft scantling design TEU capacity 363.0 m 348.0 m 45.6 m 25.53 m 29.74 m 15.5 m 14.o m Largest ship thus far from HHI At 363m in length overall and with a molded beam of 45.6m, the 131,771 gt MSC Ivana is the largest ship thus far built by Hyundai Heavy Industries and the first in a series of 11,312 TEU containerships for MSC of Switzerland. Launched in November, the ship’s main propulsion power is provided by a Hyundai-built MAN B&W 12K98Md6 delivering 68,640 kW at 94 rev/min and turning a 9,200mm diameter six-bladed propeller to give the vessel a service speed of 24.8 knots at 90% mcr on a 14 m draft. Daily main engine fuel consumption is 248.3 tonnes. The ship is classed GL, +100A5, Container Ship, SOLASII-2 Reg. 19, +MC, AUT, NAV-OC, IW, BWM, Environmental Passport, RSD STAR. Aniara World's largest car/truck carrier The world’s largest car and truck carrier, Aniara, was delivered to Wallenius Lines earlier this year by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. Designed with 13 car decks including five liftable car decks, the vessel can carry 8,000 cars or a combination of 3,486 cars and 466 trucks/buses. The ship’s propulsion power requirements are significantly decreased by ANIARA at-a-glance Length,OA 231.60 m Beam 32.26 m Depth 34.70 m Propulsion MAN B&W 8S60ME-C Tonnage, dwt 18,770 t adopting a “duck tail” design for energy savings. Other eco-friendly features include use of the first IMO-approved chemical-free ballast water treatment. The vessel has 15% lower CO2 emissions compared to earlier vessels, as well as reduced emissions of SOx, NOx and PM. The electronic control of the MAN B&W 8S60ME-C main engine means low emissions at part loads. Slides valves are installed to further reduce NOx emissions. NYK Theseus Box ship with wider beam The 6,700 TEU class containership NYK Theseus built at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and delivered to NYK, Japan, in November, has a wider beam for better stability when loading and unloading at international container berths and is 24 MARINE LOG DECEMBER 2008 NYK THESEUS at-a-glance Length, OA Beam Depth Draft, design Capacity Propulsion 304.1 m 40.0 m 24.8 m 13.0 m 6661 TEU Hyundai B&W 11K98ME-C designed for superior propulsion efficiency with different loading systems and their corresponding drafts. A Hyundai B&W 11K98ME-C diesel, developing an MCR of 62,810 kW at 104 rev/min enables the ship to sail at a ser- vice speed of 25 knots with a 20% sea margin. The containership can carry the maximum 14 rows in holds and 16 rows on deck of containers. Total TEU capacity is 6,661 of which 3,141 TEU in holds and 3,520 TEU on deck, with 460 FEU reefer sockets provided. Pontoon type hatch covers close the 8 holds. www.marinelog.com http://www.marinelog.com
