Marine Log - December 2008 - (Page 41) Technews MTU shows off new Iron Men Series 4000 M63 Engine MTU displayed its next generation Series 4000 M63 Engine at the International Workboat Show earlier this month. The new Iron Men Series 4000 M63 Engine is available with 8, 12 or 16 cylinders. The notable benefits of the new Iron Men series are lower fuel consumption and longer maintenance intervals. In fact, consumption on the series’ M53 and M63 models have been reduced by 195 g kW/hour. www.mtu-ironmen.com In addition, the engines have been optimized for use on oceangoing tugs, barges, fire boats and offshore supply vessels. MacGREGOR gets orders for DHMS MacGREGOR Group’s offshore division received orders for four remotely controlled deck handling manipulator systems (DHMS)—to be fitted on to two 2007- built Island Offshore Anchor Handling Tug/Supply Vessels (AHTS)—the Island Valliant and the Island Vanguard. The systems will be retrofitted on two MacGREGOR Hydramarine cargo rail crane on board each vessel in February 2009. The DHMS can be fully controlled from the crane’s portable panel, decreasing the need for heavy manual operations on the aft-deck. Additionally, the system allows for the crane’s standard winch functions to remain fully operational and it also provides a new gripper system capability. Consequently, no re-rigging is required for alternating between gripper and winch operations. www.macgregor-group.com www.marinelog.com DECEMBER 2008 MARINE LOG 41 http://www.mtu-ironmen.com http://www.macgregor-group.com http://www.marinelog.com
