The order is valued at approximately $58 million U.S. Bombardier, the supplier of the fully-automated system, has operated and maintained the Las Vegas Monorail since it opened to passenger service in 2004. The fleet of nine four-car trains links seven stations along 6.4 miles of dual-lane elevated guideway and services the east side of the Las Vegas strip, including the Las Vegas Convention Center. With more than 35 years of operations and maintenance experience, Bombardier provides a range of O&M services for fully-automated systems in cities around the world. These include Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami, Newark, N.J., New York City, Orlando, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Tampa and Seattle in the U.S.; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Beijing, China; Frankfurt, London, Madrid and Rome in Europe; and, coming soon, Yongin, Korea. U.S. supplying transit funding in three cities Commuters and University of Washington students traveling to work, school or other interests in the Seattle area will have much easier trips thanks to an $813-million federal agreement from the Bush Administration, said former U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters. Acting Federal Transit Administration Administrator Sherry Little was joined by Sound Transit officials and local leaders to sign the “full funding grant agreement” that commits the federal funds toward the project. The 3.1-mile University Link Extension (U-Link) to the Central Link light rail Initial Segment will open by April 2017. By the year 2030, the line is expected to carry 40,200 daily riders. The total project cost is $1.9 billion. When complete, the U-Link will be located entirely underground, with tunnels from the Pine Street Stub Tunnel, under the I-5 freeway to an underground station at Capitol Hill, continuing north beneath SR 520 and the Lake Washington Ship Canal to an underground station on the UW campus, near Husky Stadium. The line will provide access to 30,000 UW students and 29,000 faculty and staff, ease congestion along Seattle’s mostBombardier Transportation received the first five-year option order from the Las Vegas Monorail Co. to operate and maintain the Monorail system in Las Vegas, Nev. heavily-traveled north-south corridors and provide better access to the area’s largest urban centers -- downtown Seattle, Capitol Hill and the University of Washington District. Residents of Murray, Midvale, West Jordan and South Jordan, Utah, will soon have more options for traveling to and from downtown Salt Lake, thanks to a $428.3 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration. Acting FTA Administrator Sherry Little was joined by Utah Transit Authority officials and local leaders to sign the “full funding grant agreement” which commits the federal funds toward the project. The 10.6-mile Mid-Jordan LRT line will open by December 2011. By the year 2030, the line is expected to carry 9,500 daily passengers, generate 3,700 new transit trips, and reduce the number of highway miles traveled by 65,000 daily. When complete, the project will include nine stations, 3,035 park-and-ride spaces, and 28 transit vehicles.
