The Research and Innovative Technology Administration has established a partnership with the European Commission to conduct cooperative research on Intelligent Transportation Systems applications for surface transportation. The five-year commitment will further the development and implementation of global ITS initiatives, with an emphasis on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications for safety and mobility. A consortium comprising Siemens Mobility and the Chinese company Beijing Huatie Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc.’s Transit division successfully negotiated the first two work orders in its systems on-call services contract with the Denver Regional Transportation District, with a combined value in excess of $16 million. The first work order is a power system upgrade that involves the factory design, furnishing, installation, testing and commissioning of three 1.5-megawatt traction power substations. The Elati North Yard Expansion project, the second work order, is an $8-million contract that entails factory design through commissioning of one three-megawatt substation and the installation, testing and commissioning of one RTD-furnished 1.5megawatt substation. EnerSys, the world’s largest manufacturer, JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company, is introducing a fluid analysis program for JLG customers of telehandlers, aerial work platforms, etc., in North America. Information Technology Development Corp. has been awarded a $1-million contract by Guangzhou Inter-City Co. Ltd. for the supply of signaling systems for the Guang-Fo Line from Guangzhou to Foshan. Landis Industries Inc. has sold all intellectual property rights, proprietary technical information and tooling for its rail products to TransTech Corporation of Sacramento, Calif., TransTech will be the supplier of all new and replacement “Landis” rail products, including direct fixation rail fasteners.
