Railway Track & Structures - September 2007 - (Page 41) The Music City Star operates over 31 miles of track and had a total capital cost of $41 million ($1.3 million/mile). This cost included everything from design fees, property acquisition, locomotives to grade-crossing signals. Nashville & Eastern maintains the track and signals. The stations are maintained by the local jurisdictions and a contractor. A Nashville & Eastern dispatcher controls the CTC signal system from the Lebanon, Tenn., office. Looking ahead There are six other potential corridors under consideration: • Nashville to Hendersonville (Northeast on CSXT) • Nashville to Murfreesboro (Southeast on CSXT) • Nashville to Franklin (South on CSXT) • Nashville to Clarksville (Northwest on Nashville & Western Railroad) • Nashville to Pegram (West on CSXT) • Nashville to Springfield (North on CSXT). “The fate of the future corridors lies largely with the success or failure of the current line,” Walker said. “If the Eastern corridor to Lebanon is considered a success, it is my opinion that the Northeast corridor will become the next active corridor, although the Northwest corridor also remains a possibility since it does not involve a Class 1 railroad.” www.rtands.com Railway Track & Structures September 2007 41 http://www.rtands.com
