SENIOR TRACK ENGINEERS Position Summary Supervises and schedules the activities of track maintenance personnel involved in system wide track inspection and maintenance on the 272 mile rail system. Supervises and schedules the delivery of track material throughout the system via work train operations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Supervises the work train track personnel involved in the delivery of the track material and material from other departments. Schedules work train assignments. Assists in supervising track maintenance-of-way for the rail system. Responsible for track material stored in rail system yards. Prepares schedules and cost analysis of track maintenance projects. Prepares detailed sketches, drawings, cost estimates, specifications and technical reports by applying engineering principles and techniques. Review and interprets shop drawings for track material and equipment to ensure the items are properly fabricated. Coordinates activities with the CTA Steel Fabrication Shop for track material components. Inspects and reviews items to be installed as part of the track renewal project. Prepares responses to employee grievances, disciplines employees and recommends personnel actions. Represents the section at meetings with vendors, union representatives and various governmental agencies. Education and Experience Requirements • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a combination of education and approximately 8 years experience relating to this position. • Extensive experience in track maintenance and construction. • Must have knowledge of technical requirements for track maintenance such as American Railway Engineering Association track standards and Federal Railway Administration of track safety standards. TRACK MAINTENANCE MANAGER Position Summary Plans, supervises and schedules the activities of personnel involved in system wide track maintenance and construction on the 272 mile rail system. Manages the department's maintenance programs, construction programs and performance objectives to ensure that track and track equipment are safe and properly repaired and maintained. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Engineers, manages, plans and schedules the track maintenance programs, in-house capital track construction programs, emergency track repairs, delivery of materials via work train and snow removal for the rail system. Develops and applies standards for track maintenance and construction. Manages the track quality assurance and quality control functions. Conducts field inspections of new track construction to assure compliance with CTA track standards. Manages the development of training programs for track personnel. Develops a prioritized engineering condition assessment of track for Capital Improvement Programs. Schedules and manages track personnel and equipment during emergencies. Education and Experience Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a combination of education and approximately 10 years experience relating to this position. • Must have extensive experience in track engineering and design, track construction and maintenance, and track equipment and tools. • Required having a thorough knowledge of Federal Railroad Association (FRA) Track Safety. • Must have a thorough knowledge of cost and budget analysis for track maintenance and rehabilitation projects.
