Railway Track & Structures - October 2007 - (Page 10) AREMA NEWS President’s Column t the AREMA 2007 Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago last month, the new officers of the Board of Governors and the Functional Group Board of Directors, as well as the new technical committee chairmen were installed. We welcome James D. Bagley, vice president engineering for CSXT, as a new governor. AREMA’s success is dependent upon active support from the major Class 1 freight roads and we expect that Don will contribute to that success. Michael W. Franke, Amtrak’s senior director – planning and business development – Midwest, will be returning as AREMA’s treasurer. Mike was elected to a three-year term. A Leadership News… Chicago also saw AREMA’s new senior vice president assume his responsibilities. Robert J. Boileau is assistant vice president – engineering services for the BNSF Railway. Bob has been a member since 1982, and has been actively involved in several technical committees. He served on the Functional Group Board of Directors from 20022005 as director – track and will serve as the chair of that group and also sit on the Board of Governors by virtue of his new role. New vice presidents assumed the helm of two Functional Groups: • Michael R. Garcia as vice president engineering services. Mike is chief, rail engineering for the Illinois Department of Transportation. • John F. Unsworth as vice president structures. John is manager, structures planning & design for Canadian Pacific Railway. Mike and John have been active and positive forces on the Functional Group Board of Directors. Leadership of their respective Functional Groups will be in good hands over the next two years. The following new directors were sworn in: • James N. Carter, Jr., as director structures. Jim is chief engineer bridges & structures for Norfolk Southern Railway. • Nigel W. Peters as director engineering services. Nigel is system manager engineering standards for Larry Etherton AREMA® President 2007-2008 Canadian National Railway. Under the leadership of Past President Brian Abbott, the nominating committee did a great job of selecting dedicated and talented individuals to lead AREMA. I would also like to recognize the new chairmen who will serve in the leadership roles of the technical committees that help us fulfill our mission, which is the development and advancement of both technical and practical knowledge, as well as recommended practices for the railroad industry. They are: • Gary E. Proskovec – Committee 1-Roadway & Ballast. Gary is vice president geotechnical division for the HWS Consulting Group. • Ronald M. Gagne – Committee 2-Track Measuring Systems. Ron is manager track evaluation & contract services for Canadian Pacific Railway. • Dale G. Mellor – Committee 4-Rail. Dale is manager rail test and track quality for Union Pacific Railroad. • James E. Beyerl – Committee 5-Track. Jim is engineer MOW standard for CSXT. • Jeffery S. Mancuso – Committee 7-Timber Structures. Jeff is director bridge maintenance for Union Pacific Railroad. • Michael S. Collins – Committee 10-Structures Maintenance & Construction. Mike is assistant roadmaster for the BNSF Railway. • Keith L. Powley – Committee 12-Rail Transit. Keith is senior engineer/construction manager for HNTB. • Brian A. Lindamood – Committee 14-Yards & Terminals. Brian is project manager - capital projects for the Alaska Railroad. • Dale T. Muellerleile – Committee 17-High Speed Rail Systems. Dale is senior vice president for HDR/SRBA. • Dallas R. Richards – Committee 24-Education & Training. Dallas is project manager for HDR. • W. Conard Johnson – Committee 27-Maintenance-of-Way Work Equipment. Conard is director work equipment for CSXT. • Steven J. Beitzel – Committee 34-Scales. Steve is president of Systems Associates, Inc.
