Railway Track & Structures - November 2008 - (Page 36) PRODUCTS AND LITERATURE rails are broken with minimum tool wear. Phone: 604-935-4865. Versatile wheeled excavator For on- or off-rail use Badger Equipment Company presents the 1085R. Designed and engineered for maintenance-of-way operators, it can replace three or four other machines with just one. The many attachments include 360-deg rotating grapples, mower/brush cutters that can chop up to a 5-in.diameter tree, rail threaders, dozer blade, ditching and excavating buckets, genset and magnet. It is said to have the highest travel speed (29 mph) and gradeability of any wheeled excavator. Extenda-stick® hydraulic telescoping stick adds 5 ft for deeper digging. The stick allows work closer to the machine with the Extenda-stick retracted. The Wrist-O-Twist® gives the operator the ability to sculpt 45 deg in each direction from the center for increased digging and grading. The exclusive quicklatch attachment, standard on the Wrist-OTwist, makes quick work of installing or removing attachments to use on different jobs. No pins to remove, no tools required and the attachments can be changed in a matter of minutes. Customize with a variety of boom and stick combinations, including auxiliary hydraulics, stick extension attachments, hydraulic thumb, all wheel steer/crab steering and many other combinations. Phone: 800-533-8013. Compact track loaders Caterpillar® has added three models of compact track loaders, the 279C, 289C and 299C, to its line of rubber-track loaders. The new loaders feature durable, steel embedded track and steel undercarriage components. The fully suspended undercarriage employs four independent torsion axles to provide excellent bucket load retention. Class leading track-on-ground of nearly 70 ins. provides good flotation and traction, low ground pressure and long track life. All three models have two-speed drive systems, with a maximum speed of 8.5 mph. The electrohydraulic joystick control of the drive motors delivers straight line tracking and electronic torque management optimizes productivity. The Caterpillar exclusive drive motor seal guards extend seal and final drive lives. Rated operating capacities of 3,200, 3,850 and 4,150 lbs at 80-percent of tipping load. Net hp ratings are 82 for Models 279C and 289C and 90 for the 299C. Lift-arm-path design is radial for the 279C and vertical for the other models. Visit www.cat.com for local dealers. Rail breaker The rail breaker from ATM-Recyclingsystems was developed to process railway rails effectively and is available in two variants. The stationary design permits the processing of rails up to 125 yds in length. A magazine is used for feeding the rails into the breaker. There is a mobile version for use directly on the track, which is fitted with a diesel power unit and loading rig. It can break rails of around 80 ft in length into 1-to-3 ft sections. The mobile railbreaker, which is fitted on an extendable semi-trailer, can be moved to a different location very quickly. A special notching and breaking process ensures that the 36 Railway Track & Structures November 2008 ProTran1 appointed William C. Hines director of safety and training.
