Sign Builder Illustrated Vehicle Graphics 101 - November 2007 - (Page 25) site right now, but that’s something I’ve got to do, because we’ve got some new products that I need to market and I want to show some of the kids stuff we want to do,” says Jim Conquest, owner of Imagine-It Graphics (951/723-8968) in Huntington Beach, California. “I’ve had radio DJs and customers tell me, “Let us know when you get your Web site up, and we’ll post a link to it on our site.” Matthews Specialty Graphics also supplies its logos on the sides of the trucks they do for the Anderson and Rahal-Letterman racing teams—but not for the reasons you might imagine. “We’re not going after additional racecar graphics,” says Bishop, “but rather their sponsors—such as oil companies—who can see the graphics we’ve done for them. They then come to us for their business. It pays off really well.” Imagine-It Graphics has been able to point out its work in a number of racerelated movies: The Fast and the Furious, Torque, and Supercross, to name a few. They received this work through recommendations from other customers. “For example, we got to be the number one marketing method of all the shops I spoke with. Prenovost is a firm believer in this philosophy. “If you start selling a few wraps, they kind of sell themselves,” he explains. (Many shops also wrap their own vehicles.) “The quality and consistency of our work is our greatest marketing tool,” says Craig Hail, president/art director of LogosPrint.com, a division of LogosMarketing, Inc. “Our goal in vehicle wraps is to create eye-catching designs, produce quality printing, and provide great installation. Beyond this, we’re very active in our community and spend a lot of time marketing our company and its services through a variety of charitable events.” According to Kenneth Bishop, art director for Matthews Specialty Graphics (www.matthewsgraphics.com), a division of Matthews Specialty Vehicles, in Greensboro, North Carolina, charity work has opened up a good marketing opportunity for his company as well. “We had a non-profit customer recently call us in distress,” he recalls. “She was supposed to have the design for her company’s vehicle—called a Myelomamobile—but fell behind. She needed to add some sponsors to the design. “Since it was for a great cause, we reduced our price drastically to help them wrap the upper part of their recreational vehicle. They’ve gone on tour with it and had cancer survivors cover it with signatures. On paper, we were wary of offering them a deal, but in hindsight, we’re glad we did them a favor.
