Sign Builder Illustrated - May 2008 - (Page 16) Dispatches Graphics of the Americas Shines Bright Miami Beach—Nearly 13,000 attendees from 78 countries converged under the sun to share in the excitement of Graphics of the Americas 2008, held February 27-March 1 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. “We turned up the volume this year and made some very positive noise in virtually all areas of the event,” says George Ryan, president and CEO of PAF, host of Graphics of the Americas. “We worked hard to bring a sharpened experience for attendees and exhibitors alike. From enhanced support to dynamic conference sessions, there was an exciting energy that pulsed throughout the show. We have set a new standard not only in our thirty-third year of Graphics of the Americas but, we feel, for all industry events moving forward. Look for even more exciting innovations coming at Graphics of the Americas 2009!” Daktronics Swings Through the Minor Leagues Birmingham, Alabama—The Birmingham Barons (a minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox Major League Baseball team) and Daktronics, Inc. (www.daktronics.com) will team up to provide Regions Park (home of the Barons) with a new integrated scoring and video display system to be installed prior to the 2008 Minor League Baseball season. “We are excited about the newest addition to our [facility] and believe this new, state-of-the-art video scoreboard will be the focal point of in-game entertainment for all Regions Park events,” said Birmingham Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson. “We are committed to providing the best family entertainment in Birmingham, and we are confident this new display will help us accomplish that.” The new system will feature a Daktronics LED video display. The video screen will measure approximately fifteen feet high by thirty-five feet wide, with the capabilities to present live and recorded video images, colorful animation, and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility. Below the primary video screen, Barons players and fans will be entertained and informed by another video display of similar size. This display will be used mainly to show lineups, game statistics, out-of-town game information and much more. Overall dimensions of the new outfield scoreboard will be 42-3/4 feet high by 56 feet wide. Opened in 1988, Regions Park (formerly known as Hoover Metropolitan Stadium) celebrated its 20th anniversary during the 2007 season. Since then, Regions Park has shown its commitment to success with numerous upgrades to the facility. In addition to Birmingham Barons baseball games, Regions Park is also host to numerous events each year, including the Southeastern Conference (SEC) baseball tournament, other collegiate baseball and football games, Hoover High School football games, concerts, and festivals. Daktronics currently provides scoring and video systems at more than one hundred minor league baseball and twenty-six major league ballparks. 16 Sign Builder Illustrated May 2008 PHOTOS COURTESY OF DAKTRONICS INC
