After that coat had dried, I brushed two coatings of Ronan Aqua Cote Ivory lettering enamel onto it and allowed it to dry thoroughly. It was then time to load our wagon and head out to the job site for the installation. In addition to the sign and its accessories, we also brought along our Honda generator because, during the site inspection, we noticed a lack of an external electrical outlet. Along with the juice, we also packed the paints, primers, and fillers used for the restoration. We finished by selecting the installation tools and our new set of stainless steel hardware we’d need as well. We always use Photo 5. Photo 6. stainless steel nuts, bolts, and washers because they don’t rust! For an extra dollar or two, we also provide stainless fasteners, so our signs won’t show rust streaks and stains after a year or two. (Note: In addition to our common installation tools, we also made sure we brought along our sunscreen and straw hats and plenty of drinking water. We finished this project in July, where the everyday average temperature in Houston was over 95°F.) At the job site, we began by cleaning out the vertical welded steel channels with a rotary wire brush, reaming out each set of bolt holes with an electric drill, and then spraying it with enamel primer paint. We inserted the bottom horizontal panel first and bolted it into place with the new stainless bolts, nuts, and washers. (We followed with panel two, panel three, and finally the large upper panel.) As the panels were installed and leveled, we tightened the bolts, washers, and nuts. Next we guided and carefully aligned the Precision Board topper into place (Photo 2). Then we drilled five holes through the aluminum channels and the upper sign face. After the holes were blown clean with compressed air, we inserted some new stainless still bolts and hand-tightened the washers and nuts (and then tightened securely with a ratchet wrench). We then turned our attention to the skinny posts! Taking our “shop-fabricated” Precision Board pole covers, we applied ample clear GE Silicone adhesive inside each pole cover on all three sides (Photo 3). We then gently pressed each pole cover into place (over the existing pole and lining it up with the green areas of the dimensional sign).
