Sign Builder Illustrated 2008 Buyer's Guide - (Page 4) Di v e rsif ic ati on Diversification has really taken hold of our industry. After all, a narrow focus only narrows your income potential. Today sign shop owners are looking for ways to increase their profits (and their job requests). Fortunately this is an industry that recognizes the creativity involved with making signs and rewards builders who are looking to expand their signage offerings. For example, the availability of more affordable large-scale equipment and technology is allowing sign businesses of all sizes the opportunity to dive into new markets it might had never been able to before. The constant unveiling of new-improved-specialty materials permits sign shops a seemingly unlimited canvas in achieving a stunning design. And the exploration of additional equipment and supplies is leading owners to branch out into new offerings and techniques. The sign industry has evolved greatly from its original paintbrush-andpanel days. Nowadays there are a multitude of items a sign maker can sell, build, and service to his or her clients: vinyl graphics, wide format, electronic signage, channel letters, and everything in-between. There’s also a variety of different equipment to help you achieve these goals: CNC routers, flatbeds, benders, etc. Even software is diversified in its functions. Programs are available that can help you design a sign, enhance the printing process, or quote the price of a job to a customer. (And even if you remain primarily a paintbrush-and-panel pro, there are a diverse number of coatings, tools, and substrates from which to select here.) The purpose of our 2008 Summer/Fall Buyer’s Guide is to provide you a one-stop directory of the manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of the technologies and products out there that will help your business continue to excel. Scanning through the pages of this publication, you’ll also find contact information for the sign associations, contractors, and installers that are available to help you. We believe this directory will prove to be a valuable asset to the success of your business. Even better, this publication is not just limited to the printed page. An interactive version of this edition of the Buyer’s Guide is also available online at www.signshop.com.
