Taft as 27th president of the United States. “It is not too much to say that in recent years no president has entered upon his office holding the confidence of the business community so fully as does Judge Taft,” said George E. Roberts, president of the Commercial Bank of Chicago. He called Taft a broadly eduinspires universal confidence.” Taft, a Republican, was elected last year, defeating Democrat William J. Bryan and succeeding Republican President Theodore Roosevelt. Frank A.
