BY KELLY MCCABE CAT CONSTRUCTION Texas’ Cat Construction specializes in taking sites from “stake to tank” for oil giants such as Conoco Philips in addition to mom-and-pop oil companies. DESPITE THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN, CAT CONSTRUCTION IS STAYING BUSY, THANKS TO ITS SAFETY STANDARDS AND PRACTICES, ITS PRESIDENT SAYS. STILL SUCCEEDING I n just five years since he bought Texas’ Cat Construction, Mike Blissard has utilized his 27 years of experience in the oil industry to triple the company’s size. In fact, Cat Construction’s employees have more than 600 years of combined experience. The company works in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana for some of the oil industry’s biggest names, such as Sunoco. Using its fleet of 14 roustabout trucks, foreman J.C. Moore, two dirt crews and six back hoes, Cat Construction develops and builds sites for its clients. “We’ve got 78 oil companies that we work for, anywhere from Conoco Philips to mom-and-pop oil companies,” Blissard says. “We take sites from stake to tank. We build locations, drill the wells for them, complete them, get them turned down the line and get them online. We also have three different oil companies, and we operate their wells.” Blissard says that besides construction, Cat does “everything” an oil company could need, including fixing leaks, changing pump liners, greasing pumping units and replacing batteries. “Right now, we’re building two brand-new saltwater disposals for Wilson Systems,” he explains. “We’re also rebuilding six of them for them, too.” Because saltwater systems are built entirely with fiberglass, Cat Construction has a staff expert – foreman David Denton – for sandblasting WINTER 2010 COMPANY PROFILE Cat Construction Location: Coahoma, Texas Employees: 80 2008 revenues: $18 million Specialty: Oil-well construction Mike Blissard, president: “We take it from stake to tank.” EXPLORATION-PROCESSING.COM | 67 and maintenance
