Detailed trail maps and
markers make a day of exploring
fun and safe for all
skill levels. The trail system
is open from December 15
through March 30.
Ski Resorts
The highest vertical
drops this side of the Rockies,
an average of 150 inches
of snow, stunning scenery
and two ski resorts offering
a full slate of services and
amenities – what more can
you ask for? The nearby
historic gold rush towns of
Lead and Deadwood are
pleased to provide answers
with fi ne restaurants,
fabulous entertainment
and attractions. Deadwood
provides casino gaming as
well. Or, for those unwilling
to leave the slopes for long,
there’s night skiing on Fridays
and Saturdays. Terry
Peak, summit 7,076 feet,
boasts trails that measure
over 20 miles. Five chair
lifts serve the 1,100-foot ver-

tical drop. Mystic Miner Ski
Resort, elevation 6,752, has
750 vertical feet of skiing.
Both resorts offer lessons
and equipment rental, and
both are equipped to manufacture
snow.
Nordic Skiing
Cross-country skiing
in the Black Hills is the
perfect blend of mental
and physical rejuvenation.
Moderate elevations and
temperatures combine with
some 150 inches of powdery
snow to provide great skiing
throughout the winter
and into spring. Best of
all, there are hundreds of
miles of trails from which
to choose. Or create your
own unique path as you
trek through nearly 2,000
square miles of the Black
Hills National Forest. Some
of the most popular trails
are found at Big Hill, just
south of Spearfi sh, Mystic
Miner Ski Area near Lead,
Eagle Cliff, also near Lead;
Beaver Creek, just east of
