glacial lakes & prairies region Redfield 100 Years of Tradition and Counting Nestled in eastern South Dakota, The first successful stocking of pheasants in South Dakota occurred in Redfield in 1908, leading to the first one day open season on rooster pheasants on Oct 30. 1919. Since then, organized hunting has flourished with hunters flocking to Redfield to bag their limit. History For a taste of 1900’s history tour the 1902 Carnegie Library, the Spink County Museum, and the1914 Chicago & Northwestern Rail Road Depot. This Depot, originally dedicated on October 23, 1914, was built in the likeness of the original C & NW Depot in Chicago, IL. In 2002, the City of Redfield received a matching Federal Grant and began restoring the Depot to its original grandeur. Today, thanks to so many area families, everyone can enjoy the railroad items, model trains, engines, and artifacts depicting the early days of the railroad.
