Mellette House – The home of Arthur C. Mellette, Dakota Territory’s last governor and the first governor of South Dakota, is located at 421 Fifth Ave. NW. The home Arthur and Maggie Mellette built in the mid 1880’s is now beautifully restored with much of their own furniture and many personal effects. Once inside the door, the visitor has stepped into early Dakota. During the 1880’s and 1890’s many elegant receptions and social gatherings graced this Italianate style home. Open from May 1 to Oct. 1, Tues. through Sun., 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is Free. Donations accepted. www.mellettehouse.org

South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame: Located at Lake Norden, SD. Only amateur baseball Hall of Fame in the world. Housed in a building especially built for that purpose. Nearly a hundred years of amateur baseball, including pictures and mementos of 110 Hall of Famers, and other baseball pioneers are depicted. South Dakota Major Leaguers are also honored. Open May through Oct., 7 days a week, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Winter hours by appointment.
