great lakes region Pollock A City Built on a Hill Cannot be Hidden Pollock is the gateway to the Dakotas. Whether traveling east or west on Highway 10 or north or south on Highway 1804, you’ll be fascinated by Pollock’s one-of-a-kind history. The original townsite, established in 1901, was moved a half-mile south in 1955 when the construction of the Oahe Dam threatened to leave the town underwater. Pollock has the widest Main Street of any town in South Dakota. It also features a 60-acre park, a children’s playground, lighted sports complex, nature trail, Visitor/Interpretive Center and West Pollock Recreation Area. Outdoor Playground Pollock has two lakes on its doorstep, Lake Oahe and Lake Pocasse, where anglers can expect to catch walleye, northern pike, catfish and many other species. Grouse, partridge, pheasant and deer make Pollock a hunting destination to rival all others. Hospitality Pollock features good home-made food, a full range of lodging, and free camping.
