The oldest town in the Black Hills, Custer B has gained a name for itself with its picturesque downtown – home to a number of art and craft galleries and a variety of excellent eateries. Then there’s the town’s appealing setting – a landscape studded with unique granite outcroppings and surrounded by Ponderosa pines. With numerous hotels/motels, campgrounds, restaurants and attractions, Custer makes an ideal base camp for exploring all the area has to offer. Named for famed Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer, the area first appeared on a map in 1874 when Custer brought a large expeditionary force into the Black Hills to scout this unknown wilderness.
