South Dakota Vacation Guide 2012 - (Page 98)

Pollock A City Built on a Hill Cannot be Hidden Pollock is the gateway to the Dakotas. Whether traveling east or west on Highway 10 or north or south on Highway 1804, you’ll be fascinated by Pollock’s one-of-a-kind history. The original townsite, established in 1901, was moved a half-mile south in 1955 when the construction of the Oahe Dam threatened to leave the town underwater. Pollock has the widest Main Street of any town in South Dakota. It also features a 60-acre park, a children’s playground, lighted sports complex, nature trail, Visitor/Interpretive Center and West Pollock Recreation Area. Outdoor Playground Pollock has two lakes on its doorstep, Lake Oahe and Lake Pocasse, where anglers can expect to catch walleye, northern pike, catfish and many other species. Grouse, partridge, pheasant and deer make Pollock a hunting destination to rival all others. Hospitality Pollock features good home-made food, a full range of lodging, and free camping. The friendly people will make you feel welcome. You’ll enjoy a safe environment in which to relax and visit attractions. Traveling along scenic Highway 1804, like Lewis and Clark, you will experience a kaleidoscopic view of the Missouri River, breath-taking sunrises and sunsets, and abundant wildlife. 2012 Special Events • Walleye Fishing Tourney-June 16-17 • Dairy/Ag Days-July 13-15 Fishing Crew Walleye Tourney-TBA The special exhibit Fall In!: Soldiering in Dakota - Story of Dakota’s early military men via photos & text Will be hosted at the Pollock Visitors Center June 15-August 19, 2012 Town of Pollock PO Box 57 • Pollock, SD 57648 • (605) 889-2450 townofpollock@valleytel.net • www.pollocksouthdakota.com G r e at L a k e s R E G I O N ntures Adve MADE IN FESTIVALS & MORE Sitting Bull Stampede -July 2, 3 & 4 Largest Ice Fishing tournament in the U.S. SPORTMAN’S PARADISE Fishing, deer, pheasant, turkey, antelope, varment, etc. City Airport FUN Adjacent to Lake Oahe Shopping Scherr-Howe Event Center - Oscar Howe Murals Museum ADVENTURE 98 Oahe Hills Golf Course Multiple Parks Swimming Playgrounds & Equipment Sitting Bull Monument http://www.pollocksouthdakota.com http://www.pollocksouthdakota.com http://www.mobridge.org http://www.mobridge.org
