SEAHO Report - Summer 2012 - (Page 3)

SEAHO PRESIDENT Greetings SEAHO! By now you have hopefully enjoyed the end to yet another productive academic year and are well into your summer schedule on your campus. Whether that is a time for rejuvenation and strategic planning for the coming year or an active time of conferences and summer school occupancy, I hope you will use the heat of the summer months to your best advantage and enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation along the way. For those of you who may not yet have heard, our own Paul Riel, immediate Past President of SEAHO, has been named Executive Director of Residential Services at Northwestern University. He will be starting there on July 1. Paul’s contributions to SEAHO are truly immeasurable. His leadership will be missed in our region as he transitions to life in the “windy city” of Chicago. We are very fortunate that Gay Perez (most recent PastPresident) has graciously agreed to roll back in to complete the remainder of the year in the Past-President roll as Paul departs. We are so appreciative of Gay’s willingness to step in and expect her assumption of the Past-President duties will provide a seamless delivery of service and leadership to our members and region. Gay will assume the Past-President responsibilities in earnest at the SEAHO Executive Board meeting in Jacksonville at the end of May. The new look of the SEAHO.org website is up and running! Many thanks to SEAHO Technology Coordinator, Ryan Winget, Ryan Rushing and Azfar Mian at the University of Florida for all of their tireless work in arranging the site into a user friendly format and truly making it the face of SEAHO to the cyber-world. If you attended the SEAHO 2012 conference in Chattanooga in February, please go to the survey posted on SEAHO.org to share your feedback about your conference experience. We hope that SEAHO.org is a regular resource for you to stay connected with colleagues throughout the region and organizational information throughout the year. Plans for SEAHO 360 our 2013 conference in Atlanta are well underway! Many thanks to Katrina Pawvluk from William & Mary as Conference Chair for her work in making our new conference hosting model work in this first planning endeavor. We continue to learn along the way and craft our conference planning practices for the future as we launch into our new conference hosting model in earnest. We appreciate Katrina and her team and look forward to a wonderful time together in Atlanta next spring. Enjoy this edition of our regions signature publication - The SEAHO Report. The SEAHO Report is a wonderful communication tool to help tell the story of what the campuses and professionals in our region are doing to meet student needs for engagement and service in innovative ways. What are you doing on your campus? What could others learn from your experience? What are you reading? Studying? Exploring further in your work? What is giving you energy? How are you working to build sustainable practices and initiatives on your campus and within your department? Any of these questions, and many others, are the foundations of great SEAHO Report articles. I encourage you to spend some time reading what others have shared in this edition and challenging yourself to write something that could be included in a subsequent edition this year. Training is coming…are you doing something new? Perhaps you have a construction project you are working on or a new academic or strategic partnership that others could learn from along the way. SEAHO is a region of colleagues that share both our triumphs and our learning moments so that others may take what we have done and be inspired to create and innovate on their own campuses as well. The SEAHO Report provides a great vehicle for precisely this type of sharing within our region. What will you share in our next edition? I feel incredibly blessed to serve this dynamic region of dedicated and gifted housing professionals. Enjoy the summer everyone because Fall is right around the corner!
