SEAHO Report - Winter 2014 - (Page 14)

SEAHO News I feel that my past experience can be valuable in keeping the organization moving forward. If given the opportunity to take on this new challenge I will make every effort to make a positive difference for SEAHO as well as each individual I have the opportunity to work with. I will be an active and involved member of the SEAHO Executive Board and will help in any way I can to build on the strong organizational foundation that is already in place. Thank you for your consideration. Angela Ward The University of West Alabama In my first year as an RA at UAB, my supervisor needed help preparing bags for a housing conference with a funny name. As I gathered pens, paper, schedules, coffee mugs, and more, I never could have imagined that these bags would belong to future supervisors, colleagues, mentors, and heroes. Just a few years later as a graduate student at Southern Miss, I had the honor of attending my very first SEAHO conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana - I was hooked! Twelve years and conferences later, I have served on the Human Relations Committee, chaired the Graduate Issues Committee, grew as a professional at RELI 2005, mentored and been mentored in the Pro Am program, interviewed and been interviewed as part of SEAHO Placement, shared my knowledge and experience as a presenter, contributed to the SEAHO Report, and am now wrapping up my term as SEAHO State Representative for Alabama. Through my years at Tennessee, Radford, and now the University of West Alabama, SEAHO has been an essential component of my professional development. I am honored and blessed for consideration for Member at Large for State Representatives, and am excited to serve, if elected. As Member at Large, I would work with state representatives in voicing and resolving the concerns of their colleagues. I look forward to continuing the work on the Strategic Plan and being a champion for social media, especially in discovering ways to provide non-traditional, low-cost professional development opportunities. Finally, I want to be a resource to state reps and others in our region, encouraging service to our profession, in large and small ways. Utilizing our unique talents, skills, and strengths, we can continue to build a stronger association and be better professionals. Thank you for considering me for the incredible opportunity! Secretary Nominees Chandra Myrick Florida State University SEAHO has been an integral part of my professional journey since my first year in graduate school. Since that time, I have chosen to not only attend annual conferences but to find ways to serve SEAHO for the betterment of our profession and my own professional development. I truly believe in the work of SEAHO and the opportunities it provides for every level of professional to be engaged, connect, and make a difference to the housing profession. My commitment and previous service to SEAHO includes being a member of the following committees: educational programs, research and information, and human relations. I 14 SEAHO Report Winter 2014
