By Madelyn Fairbanks Get Cable Tired of spending all your time ﬂat on your back and grunting? It’s the beginning of a new season, and it’s time for a change. Add some cables into your workout as your finishing exercise to switch things up and surprise your muscles with a much deeper burn. Cables work your muscles in a different way, providing a longer range of movement as well as a deeper stretch of your muscle tissue. Don’t spend all your time in the weight room—switch it up! CHEST CROSSOVER After heavy benching, this cable exercise will isolate your inner pectorals and add great definition to your chest. • Lying on a ﬂat bench or a stability ball in the cable cage, grasp one handle in each hand, making sure the pulleys are at ﬂoor level. • With elbows slightly bent and palms facing upward, bring your arms together until your hands touch. Squeeze! Turn it up a notch and hold for two seconds. • Slowly lower in a wide arc. Do about 12 reps. ONE-ARM CONCENTRATION CURLS • Set one pulley at ﬂoor level. • Grab a handle in one hand, and tuck your elbow into your side. Keep your upper arm and elbow stable throughout the exercise. • Curl the handle up to your shoulder and hold for two seconds. • Slowly lower back down, letting in a little stretch.
