No really, do it; you won’t be disappointed. When you meet Marvin Reguindin for the first time you’re immediately struck by his gentle demeanor, quick smile and his seemingly effortless creative edge. “Marvo,” as he likes to be called, is the founder of Spokane’s premier advertising and creative firm, Thinking Cap Communications and Design. With his four-member dream team, including life partner, Paul, Marvo has racked up an impressive list of achievements and clients. A downsizing in 1995 brought Marvo to Spokane where he formed Marvo & Associates, a small home-based graphic design firm. From that point on there was no stopping him. A brainstorming session in 2000 launched Thinking Cap, a company offering both creative and account services. On the creative side, the company specializes in print advertising, graphic and website design and is adept at creating radio and TV/video spots. Account services include marketing development and media buying. “We’ve created a work environment that inspires our creativity and is open and inviting to our clients, friends, partners, spouses and pets. And most importantly, a space that allows us to love what we do and makes us happy to be there—no matter the time or day. When we love what we do, we think you’ll love what we do.” —Marvo PHOTO BY NORTHERN-EXPOSURES.COM With this new model, Marvo created a momentum that has carried the firm to national acclaim, attracting high profile clients such as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), OutFest Los Angeles and Jane & Jane magazine; not to mention numerous local accounts such as United Way of Spokane and Avista, the Spokane area power provider. Thinking Cap is also a nationally certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) from both the NW Minority Business Council and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Marvo hopes to leverage these certifications and continue to work on a national as well as a regional level. In 1997 Marvo joined the Inland Northwest Business Alliance, Spokane’s LGBT chamber of commerce and immediately began shaping the face of that organization. As both board member and president, Marvo has taken the organization into its most successful years. When asked what it’s like being an openly gay business owner in such a conservative city, he quickly replied, “I don’t really feel like I hide myself. I’m as open as I need to be. I have only stopped working with one client because the conversation turned somewhat preachy. I have done so much with the gay business community that if I were to try and hide it now, it would be really silly of me.” Visit Thinking Cap on the Web at www. tcapdesign.com, or call 888.355.2903.
