The itinerary is crammed with events, après-skis and mountain meets, but the absolute must do event of the week is Friday’s hilarious Downhill Costume Competition and Parade. A grand prize, and a slew of equally enticing other prizes, lure skiers to costume up and ski down the slopes attired as Senator Craig, Cruella DeVil, The Stewardesses, and The Supremes, as well as a flotilla of other mirth-inducing group-themed costumes. Opt to enter in one of three categories: most humorous, best political, and most elaborate. If you’re happier to applaud the extroverts’ efforts rather than careen down the mountain yourself, and want the best views of the competition, you can book and snap up a table at the foot of the mountain. Innovative activities such as the Mine Shaft Ball and annual Gay vs. Straight Ice Hockey Championships help make this Colorado resort town’s fete one of the leaders of the gay ski pack. Pamper yourself or pump yourself up at the Aspen Club and Spa day. Stroll and shop Aspen’s upscale stores during “Pick Boutique Night.” Sashay along to daily friendship dinners in the town’s top restaurants.
