One-on-one contact partner workouts are sexy, fun, and a flirtatious way to dole out a little beating. Just make sure you’re ready to take one when it’s your turn. PAYBACK BICEP CURLS This requires no equipment, and is a fun way to get in each other’s face, create some major sweat, and see some muscles bulge. • Stand facing your partner, elbows at sides and forearms extended toward each other. • To start, your hands will be on top of each other’s, your palms touching each other’s palms. • Push down on his hands to work your triceps. This is a workout for him too, he should make the resistance as hard as he wants to—keeping in mind it’s his turn next! • On the upward mo vement, move your hands to the bottom, underneath his, palms touching each other’s. • Pull up to work your bicep. He should be creating as much resistance as he wants to make it challenging for the both of you. Perform 10 reps and switch. Perform 3 sets. Your upper-body should be exhausted when you’re finished. LEG THROWS This is a great exercise to target your lower abdominals, which are highly overlooked by most abdominal workouts. • Have your partner lie on his back on a mat. Stand at his head, with his head nestled between your feet. Have him grab on to your ankles. Peeking is allowed, but ill advised for maximum focus. • With his legs as straight as possible, have him bring his feet up toward your chest. • Push his legs back down to the ground as hard as you want. • He shouldn’t leg his legs just drop down to the ground with your throw, but rather use his abdominal strength to control the downward movement. • Throw legs to the side for oblique work. Perform 30 reps and switch. Perform 2 sets each. Another way to make the time fly by is competition. Go to the exercise studio in your gym and see who can do the most man-makers in 10 minutes. The loser has to do ten sprints. Don’t laugh; the winner has to do five. Madelyn Fairbanks is a trainer and group fitness instructor in Seattle.
