It endured devastating fires, landslides and every sin imaginable. When the boom went bust, the population plummeted to 100 and Jerome became a ghost town. Still, the quirky little settlement on Cleopatra Hill survived. Today, Jerome boasts a renowned art community with several switchbacks’ worth of inviting shops, galleries, restaurants and inns. The Douglas Mansion at Jerome State Historic Park houses the town’s fascinating history and displays of early mining at the Gold King and Cleopatra mines.
