Photo by Tom Johnson WELCOME TO ALL EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES The Sedona-Oak Creek Joint Unified School District includes Sedona Red Rock High School, West Sedona Elementary School and Big Park Elementary School, located in Village of Oakcreek. Private elementary and college prep schools also serve students in this area, as well as Yavapai Community College and Coconino Community College. The state’s universities are Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona State University in Tempe, and University of Arizona in Tucson. office offers services such as a location library, coordination of all permits and logistics, facilitating communication between local residents/merchants and film crews, and conducting safety reviews of proposed on-location productions. Sedona also hosts an annual international film festival. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Sedona RoadRunner city transit service operates between Hillside on Hwy 179, and the north end of uptown Sedona on Hwy 89A. Daytime trolleys run approximately every 10 minutes, offering a free and convenient way to travel between shops, restaurants and galleries with less environmental impact. A Cottonwood shuttle is available for a one-way fare of $2. MEDICAL FACILITIES Verde Valley Medical Center, of Northern Arizona Healthcare, is located in nearby Cottonwood, 17 miles south of Sedona. VVMC is a full-service, not-for-profit hospital that includes complete inpatient services, as well as 24-hour emergency care and an on-site medical helicopter. VVMC Sedona Campus, located on Hwy 89A in Sedona, is an outpatient facility specializing in primary healthcare, cancer treatment and operation of a 24-hour Emergi-Center. Numerous skilled practitioners also operate in private offices and at Sedona Urgent Care, open seven days a week. PLACES OF WORSHIP A synagogue and more than 25 churches, many in beautiful buildings specifically oriented to capture inspirational views, are located in Sedona. TAXES Coconino and Yavapai counties differ in tax rates, but are considered reasonable on both sides of the line. Taxes on residential properties total approximately 1 percent of the selling price. COMMUNITY FACILITIES Sedona’s community-oriented services and structures are a source of local pride and include Sedona Public Library, Sedona Center for Arts & Technology, Sedona Community Center, Sedona Historical Society, Sedona Main Street Program, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Arizona and the Humane Society of Sedona. The area also features numerous city recreational havens like scenic Posse Grounds Park and Sunset Park; six area state parks, including Red Rock and Slide Rock; a dog park, and a public pool. Sedona also boasts a long list of charitable, volunteer organizations. SPECIAL NEEDS Most newer facilities comply with requirements imposed by ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). City transit is equipped with modern wheelchair lifts and tie-downs. Additional venues such as recreational sites, restaurants and lodges, theaters and tour companies strive to meet the requests of visitors with special needs. Chamber visitor centers have an extensive list of facilities with accessibility information. PETS Pets and owners will find a pleasing array of local lodging options. For pet-oriented activities, visit the Sedona Dog Park, with large- and small-breed enclosures, visit the local pet bakery or hit one of the many animal-friendly hiking trails. Owners are asked to observe leash laws on city and national forest property and to pick up after their pets.
