Echo the colors of your home, outdoor furniture, containers, fabrics, arbors, or fences in your garden’s flowers and foliage to create a color bond that pulls everything together. In areas where you have large windows or glass doors that open onto a deck or patio, consider extending the room’s interior colors outside with plants and accessories that unify both areas. On your trip to the garden center, bring along color samples that you want to echo in the garden setting. Choose a combination of flowering and foliage plants that go with your color samples and then bring them home and pot them up in containers. Observe the color combinations for a few days under a variety of light conditions. If you love the colors, expand the palette to a flowerbed. If it’s not quite what you had in mind, try other compositions until you get it just right. P.
