step 3: use your tools
Calorie reduction alone can get you to your goal. But for maximum success, you can use tools to help you get leaner and smarter, and to have greater control. This section has all the information you need to “cinch” your way to success. Being successful means using products correctly, tracking the foods you eat, staying active, and staying positive. Using the products correctly means enjoying them as directed—such as mixing the shake with nonfat milk or low-fat soy milk. It also means using the products as part of your complete program. For more about this, see Program at a Glance (page 3).

track your food and your progress
Ever get to the end of the week, step on the scale, and wonder why there hasn’t been any progress since last week? Suddenly they flash before you: the snack here, the treat there, and last night’s oversized portion. Then you know exactly why the numbers didn’t move (or at least not in the right direction). Write down everything you eat—all day, every day. You are less likely to eat a snack out of boredom or in response to some other emotional trigger if you have to account for the calories at the end of the day. Tracking your food in a journal is a great motivator to stay on track. Use the daily journal in the Cinch® Starter Kit or create one of your own. Likewise, tracking your success in pounds and inches is a fantastic motivator to help you stay on the program. As your lost inches and pounds grow week by week, you will be motivated to stay on your plan—and less likely to succumb to the snacks that you really didn’t want anyway. Keep in mind that although the scale is a good tool, there are other good ways to assess your progress—by simply noting how you feel (e.g. more energetic), how your clothes fit, or by taking your body measurements. Measure your firming thighs, your shrinking waist and hips, and your jiggle-free arms using the Cinch tape measure in the Cinch Starter Kit.
