Design Solutions - Fall 2008 - (Page 54) Your Partner Since 1961 Cabinet Hinge Selection Guide – Section 400 one of the most useful sections can be found on page 182 of the 8th edition Qsi. The hinge selection Guide helps the construction team select the proper hinge for the cabinet based on its use. while fully concealed “european-style” cup hinges are very versatile, there are times when other styles are more appropriate. The book has a simple table to help the decision makers. Mysterious Paneling Match – Section 500 The language of fine woodworking is pretty straight forward until you come to the match-match-match of fine veneers. There is the match relationship of individual leaves of veneer; the match of the leaves upon individual panels; and the match between panels themselves. all quite confusing – at least at first. The Qsi helps the neophyte through this maze of matches with a series of clear illustrations and understandable prose. starting on page 241, matching between adjacent veneer leaves is explained. The most common type of matching is Book Matching, in which every other piece of veneer is turned over. adjacent pieces (leaves) are “opened” like a book. The other two types of common leaf matching, slip matching and random matching, are also illustrated and described. More complex leaf matching requires an understanding of the flipping-andturning involved in end matches. They are illustrated as the architectural end match: the continuous sequence end match: figure 500-05 2 4 6 8 1 3 5 7 figure 500-08 1985 1988 1993 4 4 4 Fourth Edition Fifth Edition Sixth Edition 54 DESIgN SoLUTIoNS I FaLL 2008
