The FSC certified Cherry panels are laid up on fire retardant cores and slip matched. The panels are oriented with the grain horizontal and are end matched in sequence. “Incorporating the wall panel planes with the interior windows was quite complex,” he explains. “This was the most complex wall paneling we have created. The columns were an unusual shape, incorporating a miter folded central pocket – in some case used as a light pocket and in others as a detail.” Another significant feature is the large reception/security desk in the main lobby. The angular desk reflects the wall paneling design. The work in the multi-purpose room required the most consideration, notes Heather Ukstins, director of marketing at Margulies & Associates. “The wood-paneled pilasters extend three stories and integrate with wood window surrounds and other design aspects. Tolerances on these pilasters are very tight.” “The bench seating in the multipurpose room was also very difficult,” she continues. “These benches are designed on a smooth, large-radius curve that reinforces the sense of flow.” 5A sTAirwAy To The offices and work areas are accented by custom made Cherry handrails with many curves and turns. summer 2008 I DESIGN SOLUTIONS 19 Blue Cross Blue Shield Offices
