Howard Life - June 2008-September 2008 - (Page 43) U came to visit. My accountant, I found out, plays a blues harp, so I asked him to expect to play at the restaurant. Well, finally, the two arrived, and by the time they played, most of the guests had gone. So it was just a few regulars, some new faces, our staff, and [my wife] Ivette and I. It is hard to describe the vibe. My accountant, Paul, was so shockingly talented the band was asking him to join them on other gigs. Gregory, who is cutting his first CD, is an incredible entertainer. The band, with Gregory and Paul, just captured a moment that took everyone somewhere they have never been. The second [memorable moment] was the return of Gregory, when Damon and Billy [from our band] were playing. This time, Gregory was here to attend my son's Bar Mitzvah, so my entire family was in. Gregory got up and did an improv thing with Damon. We could have sold tickets. It was one of the most exciting nights in our history. dad. He would lead the Christmas-cookie brigade. And from my mom, I have the talent for making what Michel has now dubbed a “family meal.” What is your favorite food? Michel: Food that doesn’t lie to you and food that tells a story in itself. Angie: I may not be as philosophical as Michel, but my favorite meal is steamed crabs, cold beer, and roast-beef sandwiches with tomato and corn. I think there were only four people that were French, but we had a great time. Angie: We have a lot of special and romantic moments that have taken place at Tersiguel’s, including many engagements. I always enjoy it when we know in advance; it makes watching very nervous gentlemen very exciting. Michel and Angie Tersiguel Tersiguel’s French Country Restaurant Historic Ellicott City What is your first kitchen memory? Michel: Being in my grandmother’s house in France. She was cooking crepes and saying, “Dip, dip, dip.” It means “Eat, eat, eat.” My first professional memory was when I was 11. My parents had just opened Chez Fernand, and I was on dish duty. I was there until 2 a.m. washing dishes. What a night. Angie: My first memories in the kitchen were of my brothers and I making Christmas cookies. With five of us, there was a lot of flour! Who is your food hero or heroine? Michel: My mother—for all the work that she would do at the restaurant and then returning home to cook for me. Angie: My parents.
